Best Film and Best Documentary

“Seguridad is a deeply moving and visually creative documentary that unpacks the complexities of sorrow, disappointment, expectations, resilience, family, love, and the Cuban Revolution. Through a blend of creative visuals and intimate interviews, director Tamara Segura makes us dive into her personal story, experiencing the open wound left by her father while also highlighting his struggles and his use of alcohol as an escape from the internalized pain he must have endured. The documentary's exploration of resilience amidst emotional scars is both haunting and beautiful, making Seguridad a powerful story. The creative execution of its visuals is well done, making it a strong piece for the Best Documentary and Best Film Award.”

Best Fiction

"She Lives Close Enough by Rafael Rogante and Fabiano Tertuliano de Barros was selected as Best Latin American Fiction Film because it addresses major issues like poverty and illiteracy in a way that feels both authentic and deeply relatable. By focusing on the journey of a humble street vendor, the film brings a personal touch to struggles faced by many in Latin America. What sets it apart is how it weaves her daily hustle with her dream of finding her child’s favorite book, making the audience truly care about her and her challenges, not just as a mother but as someone striving for a better life. The story draws viewers into her world, and the reveal at the end adds an unexpected layer of depth, making it even more engaging while reflecting the harsh realities many people face. This combination of a powerful, emotional narrative and its beautiful execution is what made the film stand out from the rest."

Honorable Mention

“Añay Kachi presents a breathtaking cinematography and evocative storytelling. With each frame, the film weaves together the stark beauty of Peru’s salt mines and the quiet resilience of those who labour there. It captures more than just a place—it holds up a mirror to society, inviting us to reflect on the universal struggles of work, community, and dignity. Through its poetic lens, Añay Kachi transforms the story of a small, isolated world into a profound exploration of the human condition. It is for these reasons that Añay Kachi has been awarded an Honorable Mention at the Alucine Festival.”
