In the heat of the jungle in Moyobamba the capital of the San Martin region in northern Peru, a group of young people gather at the Rodríguez Grández home for an event that will change the history of Latin American music: the birth of Los Mirlos and the Amazonian cumbia.
Based on extensive audiovisual archival material - ranging from the first shows at local parties in the 1960s to the recent successful tours in Europe - "La Danza de Los Mirlos" tells the story of one of the pioneering bands of the genre, but also traces the genealogy of tropical and popular music of an entire continent.

About the director: Álvaro Luque studied in Argentina at the Fundación Universidad del Cine (FUC). In Peru, he developed his career as a director. He created the production company Saturno together with his brother Alonso. His first short film, "LUX" (2014), received the Special Jury Prize at Curta Cinema in Rio de Janeiro and was selected in several international festivals. His first feature documentary "La Danza de Los Mirlos" (2022), tells the story of the mythical Amazonian cumbia band.


ALVARO LUQUE

Se formó como director de Cine en Argentina en la Fundación Universidad del Cine (FUC). En Perú, desarrolló su carrera como director publicitario logrando posicionarse como uno de los mejores realizadores de su generación. Entre sus trabajos se destaca el interés por la búsqueda de lo sensible y lo real. En sus ocho años como director publicitario, proyectos que dirigió, lograron obtener más de cien premios internacionales que incluyen Cannes Lions, The One Show, D&AD, Clio Awards, El Sol, FIAP, etc. Fue reconocido como “Mejor Director Local” por dos años consecutivos por el Ojo de Iberoamérica.

Su primer cortometraje, LUX, recibió el Premio Especial del Jurado del Curta Cinema de Río de Janeiro y fue seleccionado en diversos festivales internacionales. En el 2020, fue invitado a formar parte del equipo de Branded Content de Oficina Burman, el cual encabeza el reconocido director argentino Daniel Burman.
