In the time of a digital revolution and alienating video games, thousands of Brazilian teenagers and youths, both men and women, are taking the streets of Sao Paulo, the National Congress and the schools to demand better access to education.

As international movements like the Occupy Wall Street in New York, the Indignados Movement in Spain and the Yellow Vests in Paris, these enthusiastic students occupied more than 200 schools because they have nothing to lose, nothing to stop them. “The city is ours”, “Occupy! Resist”, they shouted to push the politician to reduce fees of tuition and transportation. They supported teargas and police aggression using school desks as shields.

En tiempos de la revolución digital y videojuegos alienantes, miles de adolescentes y jóvenes brasileños, tanto hombres como mujeres, han tomado las calles de Sao Paulo, el Congreso Nacional y las escuelas para exigir un mejor acceso a la educación. De la misma forma que movimientos internacionales como Occupy Wall Street en Nueva York, el Movimiento Indignados en España y los Chalecos Amarillos en París, estos entusiastas estudiantes ocuparon más de 200 escuelas en demanda de educación accesible.

No tienen nada que perder, nada que los detenga. "La ciudad es nuestra", "¡Ocupar! Resistir ", gritan los jóvenes para presionar a los políticos brasileños a reducir las cuotas de educación y transporte. Utilizando sus pupitres escolares como escudos, soportan los gases lacrimógenos y la agresión policial. "Queremos una mejor educación para no terminar como usted", le grita uno de los manifestantes a un policía.

When Brazil’s economic and social crisis deepened in the last decade, students protested and occupied hundreds of schools, demanding better public education and the end of austerity measures. The feature documentary “Espero tua (re)volta” / “Your Turn” depicts the Brazilian student movement from the protests of 2013 until the election of the new president, Jair Bolsonaro, in 2018.

Inspired by the collective voice of the movement itself, the documentary is narrated by three high school students, who represent central points of their struggle. The narrators’ jostling for space and time exposes the movement’s conflicts and demonstrates its complexity.
